Where the Crows Gather....Carol Chretien

Plant a tree...renew your resources. That is something that we can do.

This painting is one of my favorite trees in my town. It lives at the edge of the woods and looks as dead as can be until Spring. That in itself is pretty renewing.

I think of it as an old sentinel standing guard at what is left of dwindling open space but thankfully our town does have a fair share that is open.

RIVER VIEW - Carol Chretien

One of my landscapes painted several years ago from the banks of the East Branch of the Westport River in MA where I live.
My Husband was building a house on this site and it was just begging to be painted.
End of the day light hitting the reeds in the marshy area at the edge of the river bank.

There is a really green effort to keep this river clean. It runs into the ocean at its end.

Autumn A Time for Thanksgiving

I was looking through my images for something to share for Thanksgiving.
This painting (sold) was one that I enjoyed painting...large and fun.
The colors and fruits of Autumn. I hope it brings to mind the time we share with family and friends and all our blessings in life.
It is a time to give thanks "officially" on the calender but everyday is our opportunity to appreciate our blessings and make the most of helping others.

Remember the food pantries and food banks this year are going to need more help than ever!
When you shop for your Thanksgiving Dinner be sure to drop off some items for your local helping agencies or make a donation in memory of your loved ones who won't be seated at the table this year but are standing right behind you in your heart!

Nonnie's Garden - Carol Chretien

This painting in oil was part of a challenge to paint with a limited palette of 4 colors.
I painted it from life and it was done alla prima.
Right now it hangs in my own kitchen and it still makes me smile.

My Italian grandparents always had a big garden and the egg plant and tomatoes were a tribute to their homegrowing green thumbs.
My Mom tells me that when she was at home everyone in the family had "preserving" chores that took a combined effort to process all the vegetables they "put up" for the winter.
In a family of 5 children that was just part of life. Everything was homemade and delicious.

I know there are those who still do these things today but in our fast paced and instant everything world it is not so common. That is a time of life I wish I could have experienced first hand.

Spotted in the Pumpkin Patch - Carol Chretien

This painting sold to help Dalmatian rescue a while ago.
It remains one of my favorite harvest paintings, as my own Lizzie was the inspiration.
She was playing with her orange squeeze ball in the living room and it provided me with the idea.
This painting was also used last Fall for advertising the Dalmatian Rescue of Tampa Bay's October Spot-fest, their annual festival to promote adoption. They do wonderful work taking dals and others out of kill-shelters and rehabbing and rehoming with a fabulous network of foster volunteers.

Being "green" means not discarding perfectly "good" pets ...save lives think GREEN with animals in need!

Being an artist who paints with a purpose of helping homeless animals in mind, makes it very important to me to tell the stories in paint....saying that we can make a difference with art, with giving from our sales to needy, abandoned and discarded animals and helping them have a chance of a RECYCLED life...A better life and maybe stability and love for the first time.

We can have a great harvest of new homes for pets in need working together!

This painting represents the Angelic aspect of the Rainbow Bridge.

Every one that crosses the bridge crosses into peace.

The rescuers we know usually are hands-on and work here on Earth.

They take chaos and homelessness and make comfort and connection.

Those who help the ones that can be helped, find that wonderful home, transform the shelter pet into the family member who learns what it means to be loved.

And then there is the Angelic Rescuer who goes beyond this Earth and dissolves the pain and chaos and brings those suffering too much...home.

SEW GREEN - Carol Chretien

One of the ways to save resources is to reuse or even create something new from something old that might be tossed away.
Ever since last fall I have been wanting to do this project of taking old quilts of ours that were still serviceable and remaking them into pet blankets for rescue.
It was a fun endeavor for me to step away from painting for a day and use my creativity in this "Green" Way.

One king-sized quilt was cut into 2 large dog-sized, 2 medium and 2 small pet (cat or dog) quilts that I will bring to my local animal shelter.
I sewed soft, plush fleece that I found at a local department store (marked down to $4.00 a yard!) to the back of the quilt piece and added a label on each with images from paintings that I did to help homeless animals and the message that Rescue and Adoption saves lives... with iron on transfers.
The whole project took me 4 hrs to complete and I think the animals in our local rescue will enjoy another blanket to cuddle on. The blankets are easily washed and dried.

It was a fun day adding art and sewing together to help.
