'October Sun - Swan Lake'

The October sun's warmth feels like a stranger
This short respite from the rain and wind
Sharing this lull with the Towhee's and Jay's
Their warning calls as the Cooper's
Glides low over our heads
Hunting with all the avian activity below it
I make a new memory with each blink
Breathing it in along with the scent of
Damp leaves and dead grass and the warmth...

As you may have noticed Cattle Point
on the shore of Oak Bay here on
southern Vancouver Island is a favourite
painting location of mine and others.
It has an historic and cultural significance to
local First Nations here and remains a
wonderful soul enriching place to spend some time.

'First Snow'

'The first snow of the year
still takes me back
to wet socks with holes
and coats hung at the back
cold fingers aching
 and dreaming of snowmen
still in the making'

'Fields Of May'

'Today I walked through fields of grass
Tall and waving they hid half of me
Here and there bushes of wild roses stopped me
As I stood taking in their perfume
Barn swallows swooped low over the waving seed tops
My mind filled with memories
I breathed deeply
In these fields of May'

'Once On A Moonlit Shore'

'Once on a moonlit shore
In silence I stood bathed in silver light
Watched herons hunt the shallows
Breathed deeply of the salty air
Felt the presence of those from times past
That will always walk this shore'

"Winter's Retreat"

'The grip of winter slowly softens
along with the warmth of eventide
standing and listening for the cavorting otter family
that just played past your silence
the early spring air brings different scents
and the promise of swallows in the sky...'

'The Turning Tide'

'The tide turn begins,
life in and around the sea quickens,
birds lift off from the rocks in a noisy snow storm,
swells rolling in from the open Pacific increase in size and intensity,
below fish feed and frenzies fill the sea in flashing silver,
birds funnel into the boiling shoals of bait,
the natural circle of life plays out in perfection,
as it has throughout time...'

'Evening Ferry in the Islands'

'Late on a September afternoon
with updrafts of August like warmth.
High on an island mountain cliff
Turkey Vultures and Ravens passing so close below
you hear the rush of air through their wings.
Far below in the distance
the ferries ply their trade,
but up here on the edge of this glacial sculpture
the silence tingles on your skin.
The scent of pine and fir warmed by summer like heat
is thick in the air with Raven talk...
 breath deeply...'

'Stormy Afternoon'

It has an endless fascination, big surf roaring in
to meet the hard crust of rocky coast.
The flashes of sparkling light and
prisms of colour thrill our senses in
a show of natures power that has held us in
awe since the old ones walked these shores.
